Moses describes the blessings and curses that God says will fall upon Israel according to whether or not they worship Him and only Him. Then comes Deuteronomy 29:29: The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but the revealed things belong to us and to our sons forever, that we may observe all the words of this law.
In Deuteronomy 32:47a, Moses preaches his heart out on the importance of keeping God’s law, For it is not an idle word for you; indeed it is your life.
We jump ahead to the New Covenant. When Jesus laid down His life, Matthew 27:51 records that the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth shook and the rocks were split. Jesus was buried in a rock-hewn tomb, and on the first day of the week He arose! According to Matthew 28:2, an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled away the stone and sat upon it. (Reminds me of Jester Hairston’s “Angels Rolled de Stone Away,”* an exuberant and fun-to-sing retelling of the story.)
Romans 15:12 quotes and Isaiah 11:10: There shall come the root of Jesse, and He who arises to rule over the gentiles, in Him shall the gentiles hope. (Note: gentiles can also be translated as “nations.”)
Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. -Romans 15:13
